HRABOVE, Ukraine - One year ago, Malaysian Airlines flight 17 crashed in a bucolic field in eastern Ukraine, the 298 passengers aboard becoming sudden casualties of a remote but brutal conflict. I was covering the fighting between Ukrainian government troops and pro-Russian separatists and, being nearby, was able to get to the crash site soon after.
