Moscow – Moscow on Saturday urged both parties to the conflict in eastern Ukraine to "do everything possible to ensure access to the crash site" of the Malaysian airliner for international investigators.

“It is bewildering that, even though no investigation has begun yet, officials in some states have hastened to state their own groundless interpretations of the causes of the crash, thereby putting pressure on investigators,” Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“Russia was the first to stress the need for an independent, open and objective investigation into the causes of this disaster. It must be an international effort and must be overseen by the International Civil Aviation Organization and other international structures, among them the Interstate Aviation Committee, whose members include Russia and Ukraine,” it said.

“We assume that this format would guarantee a genuinely independent investigation, preclude unilateral assessments, and make it possible to find out the true causes of the incident,” the ministry said.
