Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, which addressed the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 plane crash and the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
The president expressed the deepest condolences to the Chancellor in
connection with the Malaysia Airlines aircraft crash in which 298
people, including four German nationals, were killed,” the presidential
press service reported on Friday.
Poroshenko briefed Merkel about the creation of an international
investigative group to probe into the circumstances surrounding the
accident and invited German experts to participate in the investigation.
Merkel in turn said that “horrible, dramatic tragedy has rocked the
whole world.” She positively assessed the Ukrainian authorities’ efforts
to conduct an open, objective investigation of the causes behind the
air crash.
Poroshenko also informed Merkel about the situation in Donetsk and
Luhansk regions. “The situation in the conflict zone is tense. In
particular, there is gunfire along the border aimed at the Ukrainian
troops,” he said.
