PETROPAVLIVKA, Ukraine - The villages where Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crashed to the ground nearly one year ago barely had time to grieve before things took another turn for the worse. Days later, battles between Ukraine's army and Russian-backed separatists drew closer, forcing three quarters of the 800 residents of Petropavlivka to flee heavy shelling that damaged 43 homes and the village school. Electricity was cut; water stopped flowing; bread ran out.
