CHISINAU - Moldova President Nicolae Timofti urged citizens in an address, broadcast by Moldova-1 television on Nov. 25, to vote for the country's European future in the Nov. 30 parliamentary elections.
“Europe supports Moldova politically, financially and economically. What remains for us to do is to be consistent and to confirm our adherence to the European course. Disagreements must be overcome, while we must be united in front of our ill-wishers,” he said.
“Since it opted for the European path Moldova has changed for the better, gaining a chance to step on an equal footing with Western Europe,” he also said.
Timofti said that, “among the participants in the election campaign there are those who want the country to return to the dim and poor past, from which Moldova emerged with enormous difficulty and with enormous human sacrifice,” he said.
The Moldovan president urged citizens “not to yield to manipulation by forces that want the nation to remain on its knees, in poverty and in danger.”
“Moldova must follow the example of Ukraine which elected a pro-European parliament and government in recent elections.”
Moldova’s parliamentary polls are scheduled for Nov. 30.
