A political activist and candidate for Parliament with the populist Radical Party was jumped outside his home in Kiev, the Ukrainian capital, as he returned from a television appearance overnight on Friday. The candidate, Mark Gres, was beaten and stabbed in what party officials called an assassination attempt.
