Ukraine's early parliamentary elections are proceeding without serious abuses, said President Petro Poroshenko.

“Today’s polls are proceeding without serious irregularities and in accordance with European democratic standards,” he said after casting his ballot in Kyiv.

Poroshenko said he had just returned from eastern Ukraine where he observed the polls. “I was happy to see that claims a large number of polling stations would not open in the Donetsk region were not true. Problems that had reportedly occurred in Sloviansk, Dzerzhynsk and Novoaidar, were resolved and voter turnout was comparable with voter participation in Kyiv,” the Ukrainian president said.

He expressed regret that over 25,000 troops had no opportunity to cast their ballots.
