You're reading: Radical Party says willing to join majority coalition in Ukraine parliament

The Radical Party, which has won enough votes in elections to receive seats in Ukraine's next parliament, is willing to join a majority coalition that is planned to be set up in the legislature, the party leader said on Oct. 26.

“Aware of the need for effective work by the new parliament and future coalition government, and despite the extremely complicated social and economic situation in Ukraine, which has led to a catastrophic decline in the living standards of millions of people, the Radical Party of Oleh Liashko states its readiness to join the new parliamentary majority,” Liashko wrote on Facebook.

Liashko said none of the parties had mustered enough votes to form a majority on its own.

“Obviously the coalition will be the result of an agreement between pro-European and pro-Ukrainian democratic forces,” he said.

He suggested priority tasks for the coalition and set out the main points of the program of the Radical Party, whose official name is the Radical Party of Oleh Liashko.

After processing 55.28 percent of ballots, the party’s result was 7.34 percent. A party needs a minimum vote of 5 percent to win seats in parliament.
