You're reading: Several million ballots for parliamentary elections on Oct. 26 printed

Several million ballots have already been printed for the vote in early parliamentary elections in Ukraine slated for Oct. 26, Chairman of the Ukrainian Central Election Commission (CEC) Mykhailo Okhendovsky has said.

‘We started to print them not on Oct. 1, as many expected, but even on the night of Sept. 27 to 28, and several million ballots for the vote in a multi-member national district have already been printed,’ he told reporters on Sept. 30.

He noted that unlike regular parliamentary elections, when 46 days are given for the printing of ballots, only 17 days are given for this purpose during early elections.

‘That is, even if ballots are printed at two printing plants – and we do the – the CEC would still have no time to print all the ballots if it had used certain approaches to their production,’ Okhendovsky said.

In particular, he said that the CEC had promptly considered documents for the registration of candidates on party lists.

As reported, 29 parties will participate in the elections in a multi-member national constituency. Ballots for voting both on party lists and in single-member constituencies are produced at two printing plants: the Ukraina Printing Plant and the Banknote Printing and Minting Works of the National Bank of Ukraine.
