Verkhovna Rada Speaker Oleksandr Turchynov said a pro-European patriotic majority would hopefully be formed in the Ukrainian parliament.
“I do hope we will get a democratic, pro-European and patriotic majority. This majority in the new Verkhovna Rada will quickly shape a new government and Ukraine will step on the path of European development, renewal and the construction of a strong and independent state,” Turchynov told the press after casting his ballot in Sunday’s early parliamentary elections in Kyiv.
Asked whether he would be prepared to become speaker again, he said, “This will depend on the will of the parliamentary deputies, and on the choice to be made by the new majority. The new parliamentary majority will make decisions on the Rada leadership and on Cabinet formation, he said.
Turchynov came to the polling station with his wife. Turchynov’s son will vote in the place of service with the National Guard, Turchnyov’s press secretary Hanna Vakhotska said.
Turchynov is running on the People’s Party list with Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk and Interior Minister Arsen Avakov.
