The Olympic torch relay involving some 300 torchbearers will take place in Sochi from February 5 - 7.
“The torch was handed over to Sochi by Krasnodar a day earlier. The
final stage of the national Olympic torch relay of the 2014 Winter Games
kicked off at 9:20 a.m. Moscow time at Sochi’s Lazarevskoye district.
The relay will last three days: February 5, 6 and 7,” the Sochi
administration spokesperson told Interfax.
On Wednesday the torch will visit the Adler district and end its
first day in the city at Roza Khutor Resort in Krasnaya Polyana, the
spokesperson said.
“On February 5 the Olympic torch will be run on Russia’s biggest
observation wheel, and there will also be the relay’s maritime stage,
with the flame sailing on a yacht accompanied by sailboats,” the
spokesperson said.
On Thursday the Olympic torch will be carried through the Olympic capital’s Central district, he said.
On the third day, the torchbearers will run through the city’s central streets and head to the Games opening ceremony.
“Over the three days the flame will be carried over a 44.3-kilometer itinerary,” the spokesperson said.
The surname of the final torchbearer is so far being kept secret.
During the relay the residents and visitors of the Olympic capital will
see the Olympic torch in seven city squares where big outdoor screens
have been put up. Russian pop stars and bands from across the country
will be performing here live non-stop.
The length of the relay, which began in Moscow on October 7, is
65,000 kilometers. On February 7 the torch flame will light up the
Olympic bowl at Fisht Stadium.
