People's Deputy Serhiy Liovochkin said that he did not participate in the privatization of Ukrtelecom and had nothing to do with the company which privatized it.

“I have not participated in the Ukrtelecom privatization, thus I have not been a beneficiary,” Liovochkin tweeted.

System Capital Management (SCM, Donetsk) and Rinat Akhmetov were not the owners of the EPIC company, have never owned any shares in its charter capital and were not involved in its operations, SCM said in a statement.

“The relations between SCM and EPIC are that of buyer and seller. On June 3, 2013, SCM and EPIC signed an agreement on the purchase and sale of a 100% stake in UA Telecominvest Limited (Cyprus) that owns corporate rights of ESU (Ukraine). In turn, ESU owns 92.79 percent of shares in Ukrtelecom (Ukraine), the largest Ukrainian fixed-line provider and a 3G mobile operator,” the document said.

SCM did not privatize the company but “bought it from the legal owner i n the secondary market,” the statement said.

“Being the new owner of Ukrtelecom, SCM fully complies with all the obligations set out in the privatization agreement,” the company said.

People’s Deputy Serhiy Leschenko posted on his blog earlier that, according to his information, Akhmetov and Liovochkin were involved in the privatization of Ukrtelecom.

“When making such a statement, I leaned on investigators’ information stipulated in requests to a number of European countries for legal assistance in documenting the record of ties with final beneficiaries,” Leschenko wrote. The blog was later deleted.
