President of the International Association of Veterans of the Alpha Counter-Terrorism Unit, Sergiy Skorokhvatov, said officers of the Alpha special tactical assault group did not fire shots at people on Independence Square in central Kyiv. "Alpha is a formation of patriots. They were involved in the Maidan events for only two days. I state in all responsibility that there is no blood on the Alpha officers' hands. Alpha did not shoot," he said at a press briefing in Kyiv on April 14.
Skorokhvatov also said that all of the Alpha officers are at their
bases, no one has been absent without leave and are they ready to answer
all questions.
“When some people keep claiming with an amazing insistence that Alpha
fired shots, this suggests they are trying to cover those who actually
did that,” Skorokhvatov said.
