DONETSK - Donetsk Regional Court of Appeals has upheld the sentence for "Makiyivka terrorists."
An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that Dmytro Onufrak had been sentenced to 15 years in prison with the confiscation of all of his property.
As reported, Makiyivka Central City District Court sentenced Anton Voloshyn and Dmytro Onufrak to 8 and 15 years in prison respectively for committing terrorist attacks in the town of Makiyivka, Donetsk region, in January 2011. Onufrak was recognized as the organizer of the attacks.
As reported, two explosions rocked the town of Makiyivka in Donetsk region early on Jan. 20, 2011. The first blast took place outside the office building of the state owned coal enterprise Makiyivvuhillia, while the second explosion happened near the Golden Plaza shopping mall. No one was killed or injured in the incidents. A note was found at the scene of one of the blasts, in which the bombers allegedly demanded EUR 4.2 million from well-known people in Makiyivka.
Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Chief Valeriy Khoroshkovsky said on the same day that a criminal case on the blasts had been opened under the article on terrorism.
On Feb. 15, the law enforcers reported that two suspects aged 23 and 24 were detained in connection with an attack on a taxi driver in Makiyivka. During questionings these people confirmed their involvement in organizing blasts in the city on Jan. 20.
