Simferopol - The staff of the international children's center Artek have issued an address to the Ukrainian president, parliament speaker, and law enforcement agencies, demanding "a halt to the political bacchanalia and the involvement of the name Artek in the pre-election political struggle."
The authors of the address, which was issued on Wednesday, are demanding the creation in the Ukrainian parliament of an investigations commission to probe the situation caused by the public speech given by parliamentarian Vadym Kolesnichenko (Party of Regions faction), who alleged that children had been raped in Artek.
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko demands that the law enforcement agencies unite their efforts to investigate the children’s molestation case in Artek, the Main Information Policy Service of the Ukrainian presidential secretariat reported on Wednesday.
“The Ukrainian president has called on the law enforcement agencies to investigate this case and punish all culprits,” the report says.
