LVIV - Oleh Bachun, a Ukrainian deputy prosecutor general, announced a second wave of lustration of prosecution officials in introducing Roman Fedyk as new prosecutor of the Lviv region on Dec. 24.

Speaking to the personnel of the Lviv regional prosecutor’s office, Bachun pointed out that the previous regional prosecutor, Mykola Hoshovsky, had been dismissed along with some of his deputies after the lustration legislation had been adopted.

Over 60 Prosecutor General’s Office employees and several regional prosecutors have been fired after the law took effect, he said.

“This is the first wave of lustration. At least 300 prosecution officials, both in the central office and in the regions, are expected to be fired in the near future,” Bachun said.

Fedyk said after being introduced as new Lviv regional prosecutor that investigations into crimes in the budget and land sectors and combat against corruption would be priorities in his work.

Before the current appointment, Fedyk had served as the prosecutor of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
