Beijing is ready to discuss initiatives on a long-term cooperation program between the People’s Republic of China and Ukraine, Chinese ambassador to Ukraine Zhou Li has said.

“This is a good idea, it can be discussed,” the ambassador said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Friday.

“Ukraine is a large European state with a good industrial potential, powerful research and human potential,” he said stressing that China is ready to cooperate with Ukraine in various domains.

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada’s committee for foreign affairs, member of the supervisory council of the Association of the Ukrainian- Chinese Cooperation Oleh Bilorus said that they are preparing a relevant program.

While noting the achievements and a new role of the People’s Republic of China in global economy, he said: “It’s time for us to start serious bilateral consultations so that we could develop the new long-term program of bilateral cooperation until 2020-2030.”

“We need a strategic action program which would include from 20 to 30 projects, then this cooperation would be brought to a new level, the politician said.

According to him the commodities exchange between the countries could reach at least $50 billion a year. “We do not have them yet. This means we should try,” he added.
