MINSK – The Transport and Communications Ministry of Belarus plans to pay closer attention to freight traffic between the Belarusian and Ukrainian ports in 2013, BelTA learnt from the department for water transport of the ministry. One of the main areas in water transport sector in 2013 will be a regular transit of Belarusian foreign trade cargoes towards the Black Sea ports to provide a necessary alternative to the railway and create an opportunity for setting up competitive tariffs in Ukraine. To that end, Belarus is determined to work on improving navigation in inland waterways. The country is also mulling over the building of seacraft of the corresponding class and necessary port infrastructure, including through the help of investors.
