On July 17, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, traveling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was shot down over eastern Ukraine. The Dutch Safety Board concluded in its October 2015 final report that the downing of MH17, which killed all 298 passengers from 11 countries, was hit by a Buk surface-to-air missile fired from territory controlled by Russian-backed separatist forces in eastern Ukraine. While presenting the findings of the report, Dutch investigators unveiled reconstructed models built from the wreckage of the Boeing 777's nose, cockpit and business class.
