As a result of a territorial deal between Ukraine and Moldova in 1999, in return for Moldova ceding a strip of land to Ukraine near Odessa, Moldova received 450 meters of access to Europe's main waterway, the Danube, by the village of Giurgiulesti, at the point where the River Prut flows into the Danube, BNE reported on July 19.
