BusinessWorld online magazine:The World Chess Federation (FIDE) ranks Ukraine as the second top chessplaying country in the world (based on the average of its top 10 players).
Ukraine also has four GMs ranked 2700+ (Ivanchuk, Ponomariov,
Karjakin, Eljanov) and 14 ranked higher than 2600. In 2002 the two
finalists (Ponomariov and Ivanchuk) playing for the world championship
were Ukrainian, and in fact they won the 2006 Calvia World Chess
Olympiad.

Talk about inadequate support of the Chess Federation for the welfare of its players has been going on for many years.
