The Cabinet of Ministers is likely to trigger the creation of an anti-corruption bureau in Ukraine.

Ukrainian News learned this from a statement by the mass media department of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Yurii Sukhov, the governmental envoy for the anti-corruption policy, said at a meeting with the president of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO), Drago Kos that the Cabinet of Ministers will submit its draft law on the anti-corruption bureau to the Verkhovna Rada in the near future.

Sukhov requested the GRECO president to provide assistance in the expert examination of the said draft law to bring it in compliance with the norms of the international legislation.

“So that the endorsement of the law would yield a body, which will be a true fighter against corruption at the top level,” Sukhov said.

He further said the Cabinet of Ministers is drafting a plan of measures aiming at the fight against corruption.

According to the plan, major elements of the fight against corruption will be work with public, introduction of civil control, coordination among competent agencies and facilitation of anti-crisis draft laws.

According to Sukhov, a proposal is being drafted concerning the creation of a coordination committee for implementation of the anti-corruption policies, which will be engaged in the settlement of the most conflict situation.

According to the draft proposal, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko will head the committee. The coordination committee will include leaders of all central bodies of the executives.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, GRECO in mid May 2009 said it was concerned over Ukraine’s protraction of the endorsement of anticorruption laws.
