The Cabinet of Ministers has issued a resolution to endorse an updated list of persons subject to Ukrainian sanctions for illegal actions against Ukrainian citizens Nadiya Savchenko, Oleh Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko and others (the so-called "Savchenko-Sentsov" list).

The list was sent to the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) for approval, a posting on the Cabinet’s official website said on August 12.

In keeping with the No. 574 resolution, dated August 8, 2016, the list introduces sanctions in connection with unlawful sentences passed by Russian courts and other unlawful acts against citizens of Ukraine in accordance with the Ukrainian law on sanctions, as well as in pursuance of an NSDC decision dated March 25, 2016, on the use of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) in respect of persons involved in illegal actions against Savchenko, Sentsov, Kolchenko.

The resolution says that the Cabinet approved its updates to “the list as per the appendix,” which was forwarded to the NSDC.

The list itself is not available as it is “not for public use.”

As was reported, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko gave President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz and President of the European Council Donald Tusk in Brussels on March 17, 2016, Ukraine’s proposals as for sanctioned individuals involved in the Savchenko case. Later it became known that there were 46 persons on the sanction list.

On March 24, the Cabinet drew up its sanction-related proposals, which were forwarded to the NSDC, which in turn endorsed the full list comprising 84 names, later published in an NSDC resolution dated March 25, 2016. The document was enacted by the president on March 29, 2016 (presidential order No. 121/2016).

Spokesperson for Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Mariana Betsa said on July 8 that the ministry had been working to extend the Savchenko-Sentsov list, including cases of other Ukrainians who have been illegally convicted in Russia.
