The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has approved a 2009-2013 comprehensive plan aimed at stopping the spread of HIV and AIDS in the country's Armed Forces, the ministry said.

The plan envisions healthy lifestyle awareness raising campaigns
among students of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s educational
institutions with the aim of countering the spread of HIV, AIDS and
sexually transmitted infections, the ministry said.

All categories of servicemen and military school students will be offered immediate access to HIV awareness raising materials.

The plan also includes measures to arrange medical checkups and
outpatient treatment for servicemen infected with HIV. Such servicemen
will also be able to be admitted to hospitals with the help of
Ukraine’s Health Ministry.

The plan will be funded as part of the Defense Ministry’s budget program.
