In her first interview after being appointed press secretary to President Viktor Yanukovych, Dariya Chepak told the Kyiv-based media watchdog Telekritika on March 17 that she considers it an honor to work for Ukraine's president.

"My motivation [for taking the job] was simple: The president of Ukraine is the president of Ukraine. It is an honor for any journalist to become the president’s press secretary," Chepak said.

Chepak said the Presidential Administration called her in for an interview Yanukovych about one month ago.

"Yanukovych and I talked for about an hour then. I was called back again … and was was informed that I got the job," she said.
