In 2009, President Obama announced as one of his first foreign policy initiatives a "re-set" with Russia, seeking to put improve relations from the sometimes testy basis that existed under President Bush. Russia's then-recent invasion of Georgia was forgiven, missile programs for Eastern Europe were canceled (much to the dismay of our allies there), and Russia was invited to become a partner with the U.S. in world affairs.
