The crew of the Ariana, a ship captured by Somali pirates five months ago, have enough food, water, medicine, and fuel, Vasyl Kyrylych, the press secretary of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, has reported.
“According to the operator company, there is enough fuel, food,
water and medicine onboard the ship,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on
Monday.
According to Kyrylych, the Embassy of Ukraine in Greece reported that on September 20 the operator company spoke to the pirates.
On September 22 Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Horin met with the relatives of the captured Ukrainian sailors.
According to Kyrylych, the relatives were informed about the
measures being taken by the ministry to release the sailors as soon as
possible.
As reported, on May 2, 2009, Somali pirates captured the Ariana in
the Gulf of Aden. All 24 members of the ship’s crew are Ukrainians.
