Simferopol, November 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea has charged the government of Crimea with considering and determining the best options of the use of Lake Donuzlav (Western Crimea) and the nearby territory, as well as presenting relevant proposals at the Crimean parliament.
The decision was supported by 68 people’s deputies out of 71 people’s deputies registered in the Crimean parliament on Nov. 18.
According to an explanatory note to the draft decision, the elaboration of this document was caused by a difficult situation that has occurred with the use of Lake Donuzlav and the nearby territory.
On the one hand, the intensive extraction of mortar sand has been conducted for a long period of time on this territory. The work is being carried out by the Yevpatoria maritime trade port state enterprise, the construction department of the Black Sea Fleet, JSC South Investment Company and SandInterMarine Ltd.
Moreover, currently these enterprises don’t have the full package of license documents.
On the other hand, the majority of the departments of the surrounding local governments have determined the creation of health resorts and recreation complexes, development of fishing industry, and yachting tourism on this territory as priority directions of the development of their regions.
Some regions have already elaborated relevant investment projects and are insisting on the end of sand extraction, as it negatively influences the ecology of the region and leads to the destruction of the lakeside area.
