Kyiv, April 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The Ukrainian Defense Ministry and state-run Malyshev Plant signed on April 27 a contract for the modernization of 29 of the Ukrainian armed forces' T-64 tanks into T-64BM Bulat tanks, the ministry's press service reported on Thursday.
The document was signed under a program to modernize T-64 tanks for the needs of the Ukrainian army and to implement decisions taken at a council with the Ukrainian premier on March 6, 2009, which are aimed at reviving the plant.
According to the contract, the project is to last two years, with a budget of over UAH 200 million, including UAH 100 million this year.
“The plant is fully prepared for the implementation of this state order. Large consignments of T-64BM Bulat tanks have already been sent to the troops, and they were praised by our servicemen. We do not have any doubts that the new order will be implemented successfully and on time,” said Plant Deputy Director General Mykola Belov.
