Kyiv, August 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The postponed arrival of Russian Ambassador Mikhail Zurabov in Ukraine is seriously affecting bilateral relations, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has reported.
“I’m deeply convinced that [Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s] decision to postpone the arrival of Mikhail Zurabov [in Ukraine] is seriously affecting our bilateral relations,” Acting First Deputy Foreign Minister Yuriy Kostenko told reporters in Kyiv on Monday.
He said that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry had viewed this decision from Moscow with regret, as the absence of the ambassador would have a negative effect on bilateral relations.
Kostenko declined to elaborate why Medvedev had signed the decree appointing Zurabov as Russian ambassador to Ukraine before the official handover of Ukraine’s agreement.
