An explosion at a Dnipropetrovsk residential block could have been caused by a truck hitting a low-pressure gas pipeline running along the side of the building, causing a subsequent explosion, according to preliminary information.

The gas supply and gasification company OJSC Dniprogaz said this in a press release on Tuesday.

A man was killed in an accident. The rescue teams of the Emergencies Ministry and OJSC Dniprogas are working at the site of the accident. They are clearing up the damage and checking the adjacent gas pipelines.

According to the preliminary data, the victim of the blast is Vyacheslav Brahynsky, the director of the Ukraine-Canada International Construction Company Ltd, who is reported to have been not far from the site at the time of the explosion.

As reported, a household gas blast rocked a five-storey building at 4 Kharkivska Street in Dnipropetrovsk on Tuesday.
