The ongoing hostilities in eastern Ukraine have been damaging infrastructures and limiting the population's access to clean water, the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) has said.

In the conflict-ridden areas of eastern Ukraine, the hostilities continue to destroy water supply infrastructures which are vital for the survival of the civilian population; they are limiting access of residents and enterprises to sufficient amounts of clean and safe water of acceptable quality, the OSCE press service told Interfax on Wednesday.

The OSCE SMM has urged the conflicting sides to provide people with water.

The OSCE mission is assisting in and monitoring the Donbas ceasefire for the purpose of clearing mines and repairing water mains, it said.

Since the beginning of this year, the SMM has observed about six ceasefire violations, including the use of heavy artillery, near water supply facilities which endangered the lives of their workers and shut down repairs, the report said.
