Moscow - The self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) administration sees a special status for Donbas as independence alongside preservation of general relations with Ukraine.

“Each side may give its own interpretation to the notion of the general status. We understand it as independence with a common cultural and economic space with Ukraine,” DPR First Deputy Prime Minister Andriy Purhin told Interfax.

“Reunification with Ukraine is not on the agenda for now,” he added.

“The protocol does not have a provision requiring reunification with Ukraine. Besides, the status [of the DPR] practically was not discussed at the negotiations as a separate issue,” Purgin said.
