The draft national budget for 2010, drafted by the government, foresees that the salary of people's deputies will be halved as of January 1, 2010, said acting Finance Minister Ihor Umansky.
“The Finance Ministry suggests that the government
implement a Verkhovna Rada decision as for minimizing expenditures on
the maintenance of the public authorities amid the crisis, mainly
through a twofold reduction in the salaries of government members and
people’s deputies,” he said at a special cabinet meeting on the draft
national budget for 2010 in Kyiv on Saturday.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who was
also present at the meeting, said that the government has already
realized that decision and halved the cabinet members’ salaries.
“And now the salary of people’s deputies will be
halved as of January 1, 2010,” she said. “This is taking into
consideration the fact that they don’t work hard for the country,” she
added.
