Education and Science Minister Ivan Vakarchuk has called on rectors of universities not to force students from regions, especially from regions hit by the A(H1N1) flu epidemics, leave their rooms in hostels and provide them with medical aid during the holidays declared for the period of the flu epidemic.
The minister said this during a conference call meeting chaired by Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on Saturday.
"I am applying to the university rectors: do not move the students from hostels, especially students from the western regions of Ukraine. I urge to provide normal dwelling conditions and opportunities to receive medical aid," the minister said.
Education and Science Minister Ivan Vakarchuk on October 30 signed and sent out an order to all educational institutions of Ukraine, including kindergartens, on cessation of classes for three weeks from October 31.
He said the order concerns all educational institutions regardless of subordination and form of property in all regions of Ukraine.
He said he had received complaints from students in Kyiv that the students are forced to go to regions, including regions hit by the epidemics.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Health Ministry on October 30 declared the A(H1N1) flu epidemic throughout Ukraine.
The Cabinet of Ministers has introduced quarantine in nine regions, banned organization of mass events, and closed schools for three weeks because of the epidemic influenza.
