The operator of the wholesale electricity market of Ukraine, Energomarket, has officially announced the termination of its fulfilling obligations under agreements with power generating companies in Crimea from April 1, 2014.
“We announce force majeure, confirmed by the certificate from the
Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, leading to inability to
fulfill obligations under bilateral contracts for the sale and purchase
of electricity signed between Energomarket and manufacturers, operating
in Crimea and Sevastopol. Due to this, from April 1, 2014 we stop
fulfilling obligations under these contracts,” reads a posting on the
Web site of the Energomarket.
As reported, Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Yuriy
Prodan on March 25 announced the suspension of Energomarket’s paying for
electricity produced by generating enterprises of Crimea. According to
him, further events will depend on the adoption and the provisions of
the law on occupied territories.
Crimea previously received significant subsidies in the form of feed-in tariffs for solar power plants.
Crimea has solar power plants with a total capacity of 406.96 MW, wind power plants of over 88 MW.
In addition, Crimea has some thermal power plants – Simferopol TPP
(68 MW), Sevastopol TPP (33 MW), Kamysh-Burunska TPP (30 MW) and Saki
Thermal Networks (32 MW).
