You're reading: EU sees Russia sanctions as individual restrictive measures only

The decision to be made by European Union Council on April 28 will focus on individual sanctions only, which will involve the banning of EU visas and freezing of bank assets for a number of Russians, EC spokesperson Pia Hansen said at a briefing in Brussels.

Preparations are under way for a series of broader sanctions with
respect to certain sectors of the economy. This work is at the stage of
preparation. Today we are talking about the freezing of assets and a ban
on traveling for a number of blacklisted individuals, Hansen said,
adding that she could not give their exact names.

This work is carried out by the EU Council, and it is up to the Council to give such information, Hansen said.
