President of the European Parliament Hans-Gert Pottering has said that Ukraine should carry out reforms to deepen its relations with the European Union, reads Pottering's letter to Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn.
“An unbiased, democratic and comprehensive implementation of
ambitions reforms is a step required not only for Ukraine, but also for
the deepening of relations between Ukraine and the European Union,”
Pottering said.
He expressed hope that the country’s political leadership would
manage to smoothly tackle numerous political and economic challenges
facing the country.
Pottering said that the European Parliament would help develop democracy in Ukraine.
“The European Parliament will always be on the side of Ukrainian people in their struggle for freedom and democracy,” he said.
Pottering also thanked Lytvyn for active cooperation between the parliaments of the EU and Ukraine.
During his visit to Ukraine in April this year, Pottering called on
Ukrainian politicians to overcome disagreements to ensure the country’s
political stability.
