The Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament has decided to dispatch a delegation of monitors to local elections in Ukraine scheduled for Oct. 25, Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Groysman said, adding that the decision was made in reply to his invitation.

“The European Parliament usually doesn’t monitor local elections,” Groysman said on Facebook on Sept. 10.

The Ukrainian speaker also pointed out that the European Parliament had adopted resolutions on Russia at its plenary session in Strasbourg on Thursday, placing special emphasis on the convictions of Estonian security officer Eston Kohver and Ukrainian citizens Oleh Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko by Russian courts.

“These resolutions are yet another indication of the EU institutions’ commitment to and solidarity with Ukraine,” Groysman said.
