You're reading: Expert: Yanukovych cut off from objective information

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych does not obtain objective information about the state of affairs in the country, as it is distorted and changed for the president while it goes through the authoritarian system of agencies built by the president himself, the director of the school for political analysis at the National University of Ukraine Kyiv Mohyla Academy, Oleksiy Haran, said on Ukrainian television's Channel 5 on Tuesday.

"In my opinion, Yanukovych in reality is cut off from objective information. This information is changed for him and issued by certain people, and often he has no idea about what is really going on in the country," he said.

"We understated that the communication with the country that is carried out in live broadcasts is prepared [beforehand]. When the Hazeta Po-Kyivsky criticizes, then this newspaper is closed – formally because of economic reasons – but it is clear that this is not only because of economic reasons. The point is not that Yanukovych is a benevolent ruler, but improper information is given to him – he personally created such a system. As a result of this system he obtains distorted information, this is the problem for all authoritarian leaders, who really don’t realize what’s going on," Haran said.
