The first stage of the reconstruction of Kyiv's high-speed tram network is to be completed by Independence Day on August 24, the press service of Kyiv City State Administration has reported, referring to municipal enterprise Kyivpastrans Director General Mykola Lambutsky.

According to the press service, after the reconstruction it will take nearly half the time to travel from the Kiltseva Road station to the Starovokzalna station (23 minutes instead of 40 now), and the passenger capacity will increase from 12,000 to 20,000 passengers per hour.

In addition, noise levels will be reduced due to use of modern technologies.

After the reconstruction, the city’s high-speed tram stations will be equipped with passenger information systems and turnstiles to make the payment for journeys more convenient.

The high-speed tram network’s reconstruction work requires that the operation of the routes No.1 and 3 will be temporary suspended from June 13 through August 21.

There have also been changes made to some routes of public transport for that period, with new ones open and an increase in the number of vehicles.
