Ukraine is not looking at the deployment of the U.S. missile defense system in Europe from the viewpoint of its own national security, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Volodymyr Khandohiy has said.

“Neither then when the deployment [of missile defense system
elements] in the Czech Republic and Poland was planned, nor now do we
place this issue in the context of Ukraine’s security,” he said.

“We proceed from the belief that this belongs to the sphere of
bilateral relations between the United States and relevant countries
and our approach remains the same today,” he said.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that security
issues in Russian-Ukrainian relations are in no way connected with the
problem of components of U.S. missile defense in Europe.
