The Mongolian-flagged Black Rose, a ship with seven Ukrainian sailors onboard, sank near the Indian port of Paradip on September 9, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Vasyl Kyrylych has said.
He said at a briefing in Kyiv on Monday that Indian rescue teams had
saved the Ukrainians right after the accident, but that one Ukrainian
citizen was missing.
“As of September 13 this year, search and rescue operations aimed at
determining the whereabouts of a Ukrainian citizen – the senior
mechanic from the ship – had produced no positive results. In this
connection, the Ukrainian embassy in India asked the authorities of the
state of Orissa, the port service and the ship owner to conduct an
additional search and rescue operation as soon as possible,” Kyrylych
said.
He also said that the embassy was in constant contact with the
captain of the ship, the ship owner’s agent and the relatives of the
missing Ukrainian sailor.
The Ukrainian embassies in India, Singapore, and the consular
service department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry are overseeing the
case.
