Russia's Gazprom has confirmed payment of $1.5 billion by the Naftohaz Ukrainy national oil and gas company for gas supplies to the RosUkrEnergo Company for gas supplies

Russia’s Gazprom has confirmed payment of USD 1.5 billion by the Naftohaz Ukrainy national oil and gas company for gas supplies to the RosUkrEnergo Company for gas supplies.

Alexander Medvedev, the CEO of the Gazprom Export Company, said this at a press conference.

“The money has been transferred to the accounts of RosUkrEnergo,” he said.

Sergei Kupriyanov, the spokesman for Gazprom, said in turn that RosUkrEnergo has yet to transfer the money to the Russian gas monopolist.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, as of December 24, the financial liability of Naftohaz Ukrainy before RosUkrEnergo for gas supplied in November is estimated at USD 805.8 million. The financial liability of the Ukrainian national oil and gas company for December gas supplies will be, according to Gazprom, USD 862.3 million.

On December 30, the Ukrainian presidential press service circulated a statement that the Naftohaz Ukrainy national oil and gas company has paid in full to the RosUkrEnergo Company for natural gas imported to Ukraine in November and December.

The RosUkrEnergo Company denied having the money on its account.

Naftohaz Ukrainy in the evening of December 30 said it has completed the transfer of USD 1.5228 billion for gas supplies. The Ukrainian national company said it has paid off its liabilities for gas supplies in 2008.

Naftohaz Ukrainy and Gazprom are in talks on gas supplies in 2009.

Gazprom refuses to sign a contract with Naftohaz Ukrainy on direct gas supplies until the money for gas supplies in 2008 is paid in full.
