Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller held a working meeting with ENI CEO and General Manager Paolo Scaroni at the Gazprom head office on Thursday.
Miller briefed Scaroni on the current critical situation in the relations with Ukraine and Gazprom’s steps to resolve the crisis, Gazprom said in a press release.
“The parties noted that in this situation the question of diversifying gas export routes, which would allow to connect Russia directly to Europe and to strengthen the continent’s energy security, becomes particularly important,” the statement said.
Gazprom and ENI agreed to step up the efforts of their joint working group to prepare and implement the South Stream project.
The next session of the group is due on Friday.
