MOSCOW, Jan 1 (Reuters) - Russia's contract to supply gas to Ukraine has expired but an announcement on whether a planned cut-off has been carried out will be made later, an official with Russia's Gazprom said on Thursday.

Gazprom said on Wednesday that all supplies to Ukraine would be cut off at 0700 GMT on Thursday. The official, in Gazprom’s press office, told Reuters the contract expired at 0700, and a news conference would start shortly.
