You're reading: General Assembly of Atlantic Treaty Association opens in Kyiv

The 55th General Assembly of the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA) has opened in Kyiv.

It will focus on civil society security, NATO’s new strategic concept, improvement of the situation in Afghanistan and its impact on international security, as well as on NATO further expansion, and energy security in the Black Sea region.

The ATA General Assembly will close on October 10.

A General Assembly of the Atlantic Treaty Association usually takes place in one of a NATO member states annually.

This is the third time in the Association’s history when the session is convened in a non-NATO member state.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the 54th General Assembly of the Atlantic Treaty Association decided in Berlin, Germany, November 2008, to have the anniversary meeting in Kyiv.
