Georgia's new Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaya has determined three priorities of the Defense Ministry: ensuring peace, modernization of the army, and NATO integration.
“Peace is our main purpose, and to ensure it we need to increase the
defense potential of our country, because if we don’t have a strong
army we won’t have peace,” Akhalaya told a briefing in the Defense
Ministry on Friday.
“Modernization envisages the improvement of the Georgian army’s
weapons and equipment, as well as the training of soldiers and
officers. And NATO integration remains our only way,” the minister said.
“Georgia should have an army that will not be a burden on NATO, but will strengthen it,” Akhalaya said.
The minister thanked his predecessor David Sikharulidze for his work.
