The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on October 14 approved a draft law on the principles of the functioning of the natural gas market, according to a statement on the government's official Web site.

The draft law sets the legal, economic and organizational basis of the functioning of the natural gas market in the country.

“The approval of the draft law will liquidate monopolies on the natural gas market, and put in place a competitive domestic market,” the statement reads.

In addition, the document will secure free access to the gas transportation system of Ukraine.

“The realization of the law will secure the rational consumption of natural gas, the implementation of energy saving technologies, and the formation of economically grounded tariffs for the services of gas companies,” the cabinet said.
