The football national teams of Greece and Ukraine played a goalless draw in the first leg of the play-offs for the 2010 World Cup at the Olympic Stadium, Athens, in the evening of November 14.

The referee Loran Duhamel from France blew his whistle and the match started at 20:00 (Kyiv time).

The chief coal of the Greek national team, Otto Rehhagel, determined the following line-up for the start of the match: goal-keeper Alexandros Tzorvas, defenders Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Vaggelis Moras, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, mid-fields Loukas Vyntra, Giorgos Karagounis, Konstantinos Katsouranis, Nikos Spiropoulos, forwards Dimitrios Salpingidis, Theofanis Gekas, and Georgios Samaras.

Oleksii Mykhailychenko, the chief coach of the Ukrainian national football team, determined the following line-up for the start of the match: goal-keeper Andrii Piatov, defenders Vasyl Kobin, Oleksandr Kucher, Yaroslav Rakytskyi, Yevhen Khacheridi, mid-fields Anatolii Tymoschuk, Taras Mykhalyk, Oleh Husev, Ruslan Rotan, forwards Artem Milevskyi, Andrii Schevchenko.

The national teams of Ukraine and Greece exchanged dangerous moments during the first 20 minutes of the first half.

The first half ended virtually without dangerous moments.

In the 46th minute in the game Ruslan Rotan is replaced by Andrii Yarmolenko in the Ukrainian national team.

In the 55th minute in the game Oleh Husev fails the best goal opportunity in the match for the Ukrainian team to score a goal after the pass from Andrii Schevchenko.

In the 60th minute in the game Sokratis Papastathopoulos from the Greek national team is booked for unsporting behavior.

On November 18, Donetsk will host the match of the second leg at the Donbas Arena stadium.
